Michael Volle has established himself as one of the leading bari- tones. He has studied with Josef Metternich and Rudolf Piernay. First permanent engagements at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, Bonn, Düsseldorf and Cologne. From 1999 until 2007 Michael Volle was a member of the ensemble at the Zurich Opera House where he has interpreted various roles in new productions, including Beckmesser / Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Eugene Onegin, Golaud / Pelléas et Mélisande, Barak / Die Frau ohne Schatten, Wolfram / Tannhäuser and in 2012 role debut as Hans Sachs / Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. Since the 2007 / 2008 season until 2011 / 2012 Michael Volle was a member of the Munich State Opera singing the title roles in the new produc- tions of Eugene Onegin and Wozzeck and further roles like Count / Le Nozze di Figaro, Kurwenal, Amfortas, Morone, Amonasro, Wolfram. He has appeared at all the major houses in Europe such as the Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden and Vienna State Operas, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Royal Opera House London. Debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York 2014 with engagements agreed until 2020/2021. Bayreuth Festival: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg / Beckmesser  (2007 and 2008, production by Katharina Wagner) and Hans Sachs  (2017 and 2018, leading team: Barrie Kosky / Philippe Jordan). Salz- burg Festival 2013: Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg / Hans Sachs. Michael Volle also dedicates a significant part of his career to Lied recitals and to world-wide concert commitments with leading or- chestras and with important conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Thomas Hengelbrock, Philippe Herreweghe, Mariss Jansons, Philippe Jordan, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Kent Nagano, Seiji Ozawa, Antonio Pappano, Franz Welser-Möst. TV appearances / ARTE, CD and DVD recordings on the EMI, Harmonia Mundi, Arthaus, Naxos and Philipps labels. Film pro- duction The Hunter's Bride / Der Freischütz (2009).
