Jürgen Freier
Baritone
Jürgen Freier was born in Danzig and was a member of the Berlin
State Opera until 1991. The artist has since established an
international reputation of wide-ranging versatility. His extensive
repertoire includes roles such as Alberich / Ring-Cycle, Pizarro /
Fidelio, Wolfram / Tannhäuser, Four Villains / Les Contes de
Hoffmann (Deutsche Oper am Rhein), Wozzeck / Wozzeck (Munich
State Opera and Teatro Comunale di Bologna), Beckmesser / Die
Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Frankfurt Opera), Don Estoban / Der
Zwerg and Dr. Schön / Lulu (Teatro de la Maestranza, Seville).
Chemnitz Opera: Mandryka / Arabella, Holländer / Der fliegende
Holländer, Kaspar / Der Freischütz, Faninal / Der Rosenkavalier,
Der Weg der Verheißung (Kurt Weill), world premiere of the original
German version with tours to New York and Tel Aviv.
The artist has sung throughout Europe, regularly appearing with
the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, the Chemnitz Opera, the Cologne,
Frankfurt and Leipzig Operas, the Hamburg and Munich State
Operas, Komische Oper Berlin, De Nederlandse Opera, De Flaamse
Opera, Antwerp, as well as in Lisbon, at the Teatro de la
Maestranza, Seville, in Japan, at the Washington National Opera, in
New York, Tel Aviv and at the Bregenz, Granada and Salzburg
Festivals. Role debut als Klingsor / Parsifal (new production),
Croatian National Theatre Zagreb (conductor Niksa Bareza) in
March / April 2011.
Jürgen Freier has sung with conductors such as Gary Bertini,
Heinz Fricke, Hartmut Haenchen, Ingo Metzmacher, Fabio Luisi und
worked with stage directors such as Pierre Audi, Willy Decker,
August Everding, Götz Friedrich, Kurt Horres, Harry Kupfer, Peter
Konwitschny, Lotfi Mansouri, Günter Krämer and Herbert Wernicke.
