Günter Neuhold is Chief Conductor of one of Spain's leading orchestras, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Bilbao. The artist was born in Graz and received his musical education in his native city, completing his studies in Rome with Franco Ferrara and in Vienna with Hans Swarowsky. After winning several inter- national competitions, further engagements as Kapellmeister at various opera houses in Germany. From 1981 until 1986 he assumed the position of Music Director at the Teatro Regio di Parma; other leading positions include Chief Conductor and Musical Director of the Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen in Antwerp, General Music Director at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe and General Music Director and Artistic Director at the Theater der Freien Hansestadt Bremen. From 2022/2023 Günter Neuhold is the new Artistic Director and Chief Conductor of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Neuhold's symphonic engagements have included numerous visits to Japan and Brazil and he has also conducted numerous prestigious orchestras throughout Europe including Wiener Phil- harmoniker, Wiener Symphoniker, Staatskapelle Dresden, Orchestre National de France, WDR Cologne, MDR Leipzig, NDR Hamburg and Hanover, RTVE Madrid, Tokyo Philharmonic, Metropolitan Yomiuri. Günter Neuhold has conducted at opera houses such as the Berlin, Dresden, Munich and Vienna State Operas, Zurich Opera, Teatro alla Scala di Milano and at festivals in Colorado, Granada, Salzburg and the Enescu Festival, Bucharest. Noted for his extensive repertoire, the artist is a particular fine interpreter of the works of Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Mozart, Berg, Mahler, Schönberg, Shostakovich, Zemslinsky and in operas by Mozart, Puccini, Strauss, Verdi and Wagner. Günter Neuhold has recorded many highly-praised recordings including the complete Ring Cycle, several Mahler symphonies, Bartok: Bluebeard's Castle, Bach: Matthäus-Passion and also numerous works of the symphonic repertoire.
