Evelyn Herlitzius

Evelyn Herlitzius is one of the leading dramatic sopranos world wide. She received her musical education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. Since her debut at the Dresden State Opera as Leonore / Fidelio  she performs regularly with this company (roles such as Salome, Färberin / Die Frau ohne Schatten, Ortrud / Lohengrin, Elisabeth  and Venus / Tannhäuser, Isolde / Tristan und Isolde, Brünnhilde / Die Walküre, Siegfried, Götterdämmerung, Kundry / Parsifal, Jeanne / Die Teufel von Loudon, Santuzza / Cavalleria rusticana), Hänsel und Gretel / Hexe, Pique Dame / Gräfin. Evelyn Herlitzius has appeared at all the major opera houses throughout Europe and Japan, including the Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Stuttgart and Vienna State Operas, the Deutsche Oper Berlin (complete Ring Cycle), Dutch National Opera Amsterdam (Jenufa / Kostelnicka, 2018), Opéra National de Paris (Lohengrin /  Ortrud), Teatro alla Scala di Milano (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk / Katerina Izmaylova, Wozzeck / Marie, Lohengrin / Ortrud), Zurich Opera. 2018: debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York (Parsifal / Kundry). 2022: Theater Basel, Duke Bluebeard’s Castle / Judith, role debut. Sir Simon Rattle engaged her for Schönberg's Erwartung with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra for concerts in Berlin and New York. Pierre Boulez invited her to sing with the Vienna Philhar- monic Orchestra (Glagolitic Mass). 2020: Stuttgart State Opera, Das Lied von der Erde (staged version). After her debut with the Bayreuth Festival in 2002 in the role of Brünnhilde, Evelyn Herlitzius received re-invitations for the Ring Cycle, for Parsifal / Kundry, Lohengrin / Ortrud and Tristan und  Isolde / Isolde.  Salzburg Festival 2011 (Die Frau ohne Schatten / Färberin), 2017 (Lear / Goneril, leading team: Franz Welser-Möst / Simon Stone) and 2022 (Katja Kabanova / Kabanicha, leading team: Jakub Hrusa / Barrie Kosky). Festival d'Aix en Provence 2013: Elektra / title role (Chereau / Esa Pekka Salonen). Verbier Festival 2019: Die Frau ohne Schatten / Amme (conductor: Valery Gergiev). Evelyn Herlitzius has worked with many important conductors and stage directors including Sir Georg Solti, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniel Barenboim, Daniele Gatti, Adam Fischer, Sir Simon Rattle, Christian Thielemann, Sir Donald Runnicles, Fabio Luisi, Kent Nagano, Willy Decker, Jürgen Flimm, Andreas Homoki, Harry Kupfer, Christof Loy, Hans Neuenfels and Christoph Schlingensief. Evelyn Herlitzius has been awarded the Kammersängerin title (2002). She has also received the "Christel-Goltz-Prize" (1999) and the ”Deutsche Theaterpreis Faust" (2006).
