Barbara Bornemann
Barbara Bornemann was born in Dingelstädt / Thuringia and
studied at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar. She has
also won prizes at several international singing competitions.
Engagements with the opera theatre in Halberstadt and with the
Staatstheater Schwerin.
The artist has been a regular member of the Berlin State Opera for
many years. She has sung a range of different roles, including Die
Verurteilung des Lukullus / Fischweib (Ruth Berghaus), Pelléas et
Mélisande / Geneviève (Michael Gielen / Ruth Berghaus), Hänsel
und Gretel / Gertrud (Fabio Luisi), Der Rosenkavalier / Annina, Der
fliegende Holländer / Mary.
Invitation from the Bayreuth Festival for the new production of Der
fliegende Holländer / Mary under the musical direction of Giuseppe
Sinopoli.
Guest appearances include performances at the Dresden State
Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Frankfurt
Opera, Opéra National de Paris, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona
(Der fliegende Holländer / Mary during the season 2006 / 2007),
Teatro de la Maestranza, Seville (Der fliegende Holländer / Mary,
2007 / 2008). She also sang the latter role for the Teatro Pérez
Galdós in Las Palmas in August 2010.
Concert engagements with major orchestras in Germany, Europe
and Japan, inter alia with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra (Mahler:
Symphony No. 2). Several radio broadcasts in the former GDR and
recordings for Berlin Classics.
Barbara Bornemann has worked with conductors such as Heinz
Fricke, Michael Gielen, Pedro Halffter, Siegfried Kurz, Fabio Luisi,
Otmar Suitner, Peter Schneider, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Christian
Thielemann.
